JUST CRUISING-- AGAIN AND AGAIN

ANOTHER PRETTY NICE WEEKEND—LOVE THIS GLOBAL WARMING THING

MY BACK IS STILL A LITTLE ON THE HURTING SIDE BUT I DID MANAGE TO GET OUT SOME..THE NUMBER OF MOTORCYCLES I SAW COULDN’T BE MORE THAN TWENTY (KIND OF SURPRISED)..AND AS TEMPS CONTINUE THEIR INEVITABLE DOWNWARD TREND THERE WILL BE LESS AND LESS SCOOTERS TO BE SEEN..JUST LIKE ANIMALS THAT HIBERNATE FOR THE WINTER, COMING OUT JUST ONCE IN A WHILE DURING THE OCCASIONAL WARMER DAYS..FOR A PERIOD OF ABOUT TWO AND A HALF YEARS I DIDN’T EVEN OWN A CAR—KIND OF A TRICKY TIME IN MY LIFE—IT TOOK ME A LITTLE WHILE BUT I EVENTUALLY LEARNED THAT IN THIS PART OF THE COUNTRY, A CAR IS DEFINITELY A NECESSITY..ESPECIALLY DURING WINTER MONTHS..

AN OCCASIONAL VISITOR TO OUR BACK YARD

IF I WAS A LITTLE MORE COMPUTER SAVVY I WOULD HOOK UP ONE OF THOSE LITTLE CAMERAS THAT WOULD LET YOU EXPERIENCE SOME OF MY RIDES MUCH BETTER THAN THE PICTURES I POST..THE BIKERS OUT THERE KNOW WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT, BUT THE NON-BIKERS MIGHT GET A CHARGE OUT OF THE STROBE-LIGHT EFFECT THAT RIDING DOWN A COUNTRY ROAD THIS TIME OF YEAR CREATES..THE SUNLIGHT PLAYING THROUGH THE SHADOWS OF THE BARE TREES, THE LEAN INTO THE CURVES,, STREAMS, RIVERS, LAKES, LONG OPEN MEADOWS, LONG STRAIGHT ROADS..YEA, I WISH I COULD SHARE ALL OF THAT WITH THE NON-BIKERS (IT WOULD MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER) BUT IT WOULDN’T BE NEARLY AS GOOD AS THE REAL THING ANYHOW..

UNLESS MY POST DEALS WITH SOMETHING OR SOMEPLACE SPECIFIC I WILL ALWAYS DO MY BEST TO INTRODUCE A NEW BIKER ACQUAINTANCE OR AN OLD BIKER FRIEND..THIS WEEK IS NO DIFFERENT..I WAS HEADING BACK TO CIVILIZATION FOR A COFFEE WHEN I SPOTTED A CLASSIC BIKER TYPE SITTING ON HIS RED 1977 ELECTRA GLIDE FLH..HE WAS JUST LOOKING OUT OVER THE BEAUTIFUL WILD COUNTRYSIDE, THINKING THINGS THROUGH AND ENJOYING BEING ALONE WITH HIS BIKE (I COULD RELATE)..I REALLY HATED TO INTERRUPT HIS THOUGHTS AND I USUALLY PASS BY THESE SCENARIOS WITH ONLY A FRIENDLY WAVE..BUT I COULD TELL THIS WAS NOT A FIRST YEAR RIDER-THIS WAS NOT A GUY THAT RODE ONE OR TWO HUNDRED MILES A SUMMER AND THEN WRAPPED THINGS UP FOR THE WINTER..NOPE—THIS GUY WAS MY FAVORITE KIND OF PEOPLE—NO B.S.—ALL AMERICAN—HARD WORKING-HARLEY RIDER..

THIS SWEET OLD 1977 FLH HAS SEEN SOME BEAUTIFUL MILES--THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING
BACK WHEN IT HAD CLOCKED UP OVER 68,000 MILES
FIGURED I'D TAKE A CHANCE AND SEE IF THE MAN FELT LIKE TALKING A BIT OR IF HE'D RATHER BE ALONE-GLAD I STOPPED--INTERESTING HISTORY AND WE HAD A FEW PARALLELS--MEET ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE SERIOUS BIKERS THAT WE CALL LIFERS ********************************RICK   CARON***********************************

RICK (62 YEARS OLD) IS A LONG TIME RIDER WHO STILL OWNS SIX TRIUMPHS --ONE YAMAHA --AND SOLD A SWEET 1975 BMW.. DOES LACONIA EVERY YEAR AND IS A 30 YEAR MEMBER OF CONNECTICUT MOTORCYCLE RIDERS ASSOCIATION (CMRA)..RICK AND I WENT TO THE SAME HIGH SCHOOL BUT NEITHER ONE OF US REMEMBERS THE OTHER..BACK IN THE DIM DARK PAST WE ALSO DID SPEND SOME TIME HANGING WITH A LOCAL M.C. DOUBTLESS OUR PATHS CROSSED..RICK IS ONE OF THE FEW BIKERS I WOULD NOT HESITATE TO CRUISE ALONGSIDE WITH..E-MAIL ME RICK,, MAYBE WE'LL DO THE LACONIA THING THIS YEAR...MAYBE STURGIS??
